Writing for a Living – Selling eBooks

Writing and Selling eBooks from HomeSelling eBooks is, in reality, still tough, but a whole lot easier than trying out the ‘old-fashioned’ way of traipsing the soul-destroying publishers’ route.

Self publishing is BIG – the bubble has by no means burst yet and hundreds of thousands of authors are selling eBooks every single day.

There is an argument to be had (isn’t there always) that the quality of eBooks is on the decline, but they are still selling. If you can write; whether your focus is fiction or non-fiction, you can have a go at selling eBooks.

There are loads of ‘gurus’ out there who can help you to get started selling eBooks.

Amazon have some guidelines and a few rules to adhere to, but generally you can publish most things. Plagiarism is not tolerated, though. They are (quite rightly so) very strict about that and will not publish anything that is already ‘out there’ without your name on it! In fact, you risk being kicked out permanently if you do this, so be warned…

One of the very best publishing guides that I have ever come across is from Smashwords. Founder, Mark Coker, is himself a published author, writing funny, witty stuff!

His formatting guide is a dream, with clear, easy-to-understand instructions about the best way to present your work using mediums such as PDF, MOBI and EPUB. The site holds more information about writing, publishing and selling eBooks than you can possibly take in, and is also a fantastic place to upload your work for distribution.

At Smashwords you can get an ISBN number for free – that feels good!

Today is the very best time in all of history to break into the dream job, if you have a story to tell or a skill to share, writing and selling eBooks is still a wonderful way to work.
